York Knavesmire Harriers is a club that exists to promote
the sport of running in the York area and to enable all members to
reach their full potential as runners in a friendly, social
environment.
The Development Group would like you to consider the following
questions related to the above statement:
1. How well do you think we are achieving this on a scale of
1 to 10 (10 being excellent)
2. How well are you personally achieving your potential
through the club
3. We would welcome any suggestions from you that would help
us achieve the above (please reply via the website)

Thanks to all who turned out to run/walk at the first Taking the P run on Sunday 20th June We really appreciate you doing so to help raise funds for
this very needy cause We hope that you all enjoyed the morning and are proud of yourselves!! We certainly enjoyed the day and it was good to see
people having a go that had never run or even walked 5k before the event.
The money raised will go direct to Research in to Prostate Cancer and related diseases. Nothing has been deducted for expenses We are indebted
to Nestle and the Civil Service Sports Association for their generous donations and also to all others who have donated water, bags, the Mizuno
sign, Up and Running and Sweatshop. Thank you
Brian Hughes Race Organiser
Richard Smith Race Director
York Knavesmire Harriers
and to all those Harriers who helped on the day.......
"Hello
EVERYONE who
helped - in any way - to make this first
“R U Taking the P”
the great success that it was – even the weather
also lent a hand to make the day unforgettable!!
A big vote of
thanks to all members who either helped or ran
in the race/run/walk We hoped that you enjoyed
it as much as all the others taking part!
We cannot mention you all because if we did we
would be sure to miss someone out and that would
never do!
It was quite different from the BM as the
majority of entrants had never run before and
some had never even walked 5k! Many of them
were so pleased with themselves and one fellow
even wanted a certificate to prove he had done
it as he said his family would not believe him!
The City of York Council are so pleased with the
way the morning went that they hope we will make
it an annual event. Many of the runners also
said they wanted to come along again next year.
However without your support this could not
happen! We are indebted to you all for your
help and also those family members who came and
offered help and also their support to the
runners which is most important.
It was very encouraging to see that the majority
of people stayed behind and watched the last
people coming home The York Opera singers who
gave us a final chorus at the end and the last
3, “Compo, Clegg and Foggy”
A great day and to top it off we have been
awarded a Silver Grading from the British
Association of Road runners. This was all
thanks to you and your assistance and cheerful
support
THANK YOU
BRIAN HUGHES and RICHARD SMITH
Message from
Jean
I really must
add that had it not been for the original idea
to have a race in aid of Men's Prostate Cancer
Research coming from Brian and the
organisational assistance from Richard this race
would never have got off the ground!! They
have put many hours of work into this race and
we must also thank them for a truly memorable
day!! They have deserved a well earned
rest……..until next year!!!!

CLUB RUN RACE CALENDAR-2010
Club Runs for 2010 have now been produced and
are on the website for the forthcoming year hopefully in
time for you to plan your diary.
I will provide an explanation here at the start so you will
hopefully understand why we (the club captains) have planned
out the year.
We have taken into account the following ;
-Your comments on races this year
-Black sheep runs
-Vet Runs
-Training for the London Marathon
-Great North Run.
It has not been easy to find 2 half marathons that fitted
also to find
runs that were local.
You are not expected to run all 12 for the club
championships, we have tried to provide you with a choice
all be it
2 races in the same month February and October. January and
March
has been difficult to fill also listening to your comments
and taking
them on board we have tried to bring a variation in distance
and races
and to get away from the “same old same old race” to
encourage more
of you to run the club races and try new ones. I am aware that some of
you don't mind travelling further a field to a race and we will now
consider this for 2011. Also new races will be considered
each year.
I am open to receive your comments and suggestions and I
would
encourage you to do so as all your comments are welcome (I
say this tongue in cheek as I may get an ear bashing now)
