Guy Fawkes 10 mile - 31/10/10 Bringing the race date forward to Halloween did not ‘scare’ off team YKH who were well represented with a total of 54 runners completing this penultimate Club Run of the season. With an extremely congested ‘revised’ start (833 competitors), followed by one and a half miles of uphill over very rough ground, it was really difficult to gain ground early. However once back on the road you had time to get into gear ready for the first of the race ‘horrors’ aptly signed as ‘The Birstwith Beast’ – its just a hill! Time to catch your breath –enjoy the wonderful countryside before an encounter with ‘The Swincliffe Swine’- just another hill! ‘For Fawkes sake’ provides the last hill challenge of the event and finally a last mile back over forest track to finish in the grounds of Ripley Castle. Our first Harrier home in 66.01mins was once again Emma Yates who continued her recent run of success by being 3rd placed Lady overall and 2nd in her age category. The first Lady home was Karen Pickles running for Pudsey Pacers (our vets rivals). Nicola Lawrence 79.27 mins and Sarah Douglas 79.48 mins finished strongly and with Emma Yates secured 2nd place in the Ladies team competition. In a highly competitive field, Pete Downes was our first man home, in a time of 68.37mins with excellent running by Neil Kingham, John Bullock, Simon Drew and Alaistair Macleod. The race was won by Ian Crampton of Durham City Harriers in 56.51 mins. Stuart Ambler was pleased to report a PB and Martin Smith not so pleased to advise that it was his birthday and he had to run in a new category M40! Overall a well organised and marshaled event with a really speedy results service and once again a strong team performance by the Square Wasps.
The last
club run of the season is the Jolly Holly for which entry forms have now been
released. You should apply as soon as you can as this race fills up quickly. Yet another great run by Emma Yates winning the Ladies race in style in a time of 1.23.55 finishing nearly 4 minutes in front of the second placed lady. Chris Richardson was the first male Harrier past the post in an impressive time of 1.24.28. With lots of family, friends, injured and resting club members, to offer support and encouragement a total of 35 Harriers completed this undulating and at times scenic race. Not the easiest course, but in near perfect running conditions, a number of Harriers produced some great individual performances with several PB’s. Those reported include John Middleton, Katie and Margaret Oliver, Martin Smith and Linda Moss. Sarah Douglas also managed to smash her PB - obviously her training with our coach Pete Schofield is paying dividends together with her ‘special’ pre race preparation. Please ask her for details!! Well done Liz Matthews on completing her first half marathon in club colours. In addition to being a YKH Club run this race was also a yvaa vets Championship race. Once again our vets contingent performed really well with First in Age trophies being won by both Emma Yates and Maureen Medlar and Second in Age secured by who other than John Oliver. Overall a great day out at the seaside with some great team results and for quite a few of us a nice healthy end to the day with ‘one of each’! Sorry if any PB’s missed but it is quite difficult to gather this information after a race. Don’t forget that if you have achieved ‘something special’ in your club vest please let us know. We are always grateful for any news.
Kirby
Malzeard 10k - 06/06/10 Congratulations and
well done to all 43 YKH who participated in the club run for June. 18 Male
and 25 Female. This was a hard HOT, HILLY run and you could feel the heat
beating down on you just standing or warming up at the beginning. It has to
be said that Nick Langan deserves a clap his first ever 10k race and beating
his dad!!! Well done Nick- nice to see you do well, and I am sure you
have a good running future ahead of you. We have a new lady runner Angie
Arnell who is running really well and also has a bright future ahead and her
daughter won the young girls up to age 12 race in a very good time (sorry
don't have the time). They start young. Both are lovely to have with us -
well done girls!!! Ladies Sarah Nettleton, Robyn Oldham and Nichola Lawrence won the team prize. Robyn won the Ladies race and Sarah Nettleton and Maureen Medlar won their age category group followed by Sarah Nettleton, Nicola Lawrence, Angie Arnell, Emma Gradwell, Liz Matthews, Joy Allen, Gill Barker, Sue Kelly, Margaret Brown, Maureen Medlar, Rachael Sullivan, Katie Oliver, Margaret Oliver, Irene Wellbourn, Vivianne Fraser, Julie Rookes, Sharon Langan, Helen Leach, Sue Adams, Jayne Fligg, Jane Thompson, Jean Wright, Mavis Young, Sue Igoe, and Jean Snelling. The Men did brilliantly with Phillip Elliott-Dick coming in 4th place at a time of 35.34 followed by Nick Langan in his first ever 10k race. He beat his Dad for the first time ever in a time of 40.57 and came in 34th followed by Neil Kingham, Martin Smith, David Darton, Simon Drew, Colin Lea, Alaistair MacLeod, Daniel Sturgeon, Martin Medlar, Dick Hunter, Mark Sullivan, Graeme Adams, Garry Moss, Malcolm Fawcett and Paul Adams. Lots of positive feedback from members who, even though it was hot and hilly, enjoyed the race and the hill training paid off!!!! The marshalls and organisers said how good it was to see so many Knavesmire Harriers. There were some great refreshments afterwards which everybody enjoyed. I am proud to be a YKH amongst you all - well done!!!! Thank you to our supporters who cheered us on David Brown, Barbara Fawcett, and Maureen Adams. Next Club Run Harrogate - look forward to seeing as many as can make it. Apologies to anyone missing from the results list.
Ripon 10 mile - 09/05/10 Well done to all 40 Knavesmire Harriers who participated in this scenic, tough 10 mile run with hard hills to run up – ooh how we love those hills and to feel the burn!! One thing you can say about York Knavesmire Harriers is how they are always up for a challenge and never shy away from tough running!! It was a cold morning start and it was great to see 20 male and 22 female harriers running. 2 Marshalls both commented “Good to see Knavesmire Harriers running today” and “Knavesmire Harriers are out in force today and running well” - I just smiled and thanked them for their comments. Well done to the top 3 male and female York Knavesmire Harriers. Female Sarah Nettleton, Angela Arnell and Nicola Lawrence Male Phill Elliott-Dick, John Oliver and Neil Kingham As always well done to all who completed this tough run.
Important reminder.
Wearing of IPODS is strictly forbidden. I had forgotten and
had worn mine to the start only to be reminded that it was not allowed .
I did check with the organisers and they confirmed that it was forbidden
and if you were seen to be wearing one in the race it could mean you would be
disqualified. I appreciate and understand the ruling and I
myself like to run with one but it would be hugely embarrassing if anyone was
wearing one and disqualified from the race.
PBs for the following
1st 10 mile road race and club
run Next Club run is Hornsea. Looking forward to seeing all of you who are running and I wish you all a great run and more PBs to follow. Some photos below, courtesy of David Bish. Lots more on our PhotoBucket page, courtesy of David Gowans. Full results are here.
