2010 saw a record number of over 1500 finishers
and a superb effort by reigning Brass Monkey champion Matthew Pierson of
Holmfirth Harriers to claim victory in a new course record of 1h 05m 35s, taking
34 seconds of the old record held by Ian Fisher of Otley AC since 2006. Matthew
is in fine form after winter training in Kenya in preparation for the London
Marathon and the Commonwealth Games.
A further seven minutes back second position was being hotly contested, with
Phil Coulson (Chester-le-Street) taking the honours over Phil Taylor (Bridlington).
First Female and first York runner home was Becky Penty (1h:18:37s) of York
Acorn, who was over a minute ahead of Josie Hodgetts (Otley AC) in second and
Melissa Neal (March AC) third.

Thoughts on the race;
I just felt I needed to contact someone at Knavesmire to convey my
appreciation of a brilliant event yesterday.
I don't think that it could have been organised any better - from a
runners perspective.
Everything from chip collection to goody bag dispensing was slick and
smooth despite the huge numbers.
The marshalls were probably the friendliest and most vocal I have ever
seen in a race - and there were plenty of them too.
Many many thanks again

Hi Jean its Barry from the Isle of Man ,
Just returned from my second Brass monkey and it
was fantastic . A very big thank you from all us Manx runners to
you all for the hard work that has been put in to create an event
that from a runners side was faultless and more importantly friendly
and fun . Very much hope to see you next year and will email a
photo or two very soon .
Could you please pass on my thanks to all your members/volunteers
who made today such as great success.
This was my second Brass Monkey and this year I was even more impressed
by the outstanding organisation.
Of particular note were the fantastic people doing the luggage numbers
and the encouraging words from marshalls all the way round the course.
I'm sure everyone who took part appreciates all the hard work you and
your team put in to organising the event.
Thanks again
Ian Rosser
Hi Jean,
Can you please thank everyone concerned at the
club for a great day at the brass monkey.I got my pb at 1hr 38 so i
was chuffed to bits knocking 6 mins off the Humber in June.
The whole morning was superb to the sandwiches
and coffees which my family enjoyed in the cafe to the great
organisation and the tremendous encouraging stewards...the sweat
shirt is great as well.
Thank you once again to everyone and I hope I get
a place next year.
Hope to see a few Knavesmire runners at
Liversedge HM next month.
Regards
David.
Many thanks - I did get sorted and had a great time. Thanks to you,
Malcolm and all the organisers - it must be a lot of work but I am sure
all involved hugely appreciate it as it it is one of the best events in
the calendar.
Best wishes
Jonathan Sinclair
