Hands up -
Who wants to help with the Brass Monkey? |
 |
|
Our fantastic race is only possible with the help of our many
volunteers, in order to make this the best race yet we need YOUR
help.
This is your opportunity to give something back to the running
community, have some fun, meet other club members & runners from
elsewhere, see our great club in action and be a part of
something special.
It's not just Marshals that we need, there are many posts to
fill.
(e.g Start-Finish/Car Parks/Baggage/Water Stations/Catering
...etc)
Please don't leave it to the last minute to step forward, join
the team & do your bit now.

Run Anybody? |
Recently there has been some interest expressed in a club organised
long(er) run on a weekend. Some years back members used to regularly
meet at the villages around the Castle Howard estate to run anything
from 6 - 20 miles on the various footpaths and bridleways around the
area. This was generally followed by copious amounts of tea and cake at
the now closed cafe in Bulmer.
To get the ball rolling I'd be happy to organise a longer
run of say 8-12 miles (distance can vary and we can split in to groups)
on (for example) the first Sunday in the month if there was sufficient
interest. If this is something that would be of interest to you could
you please let me know by emailing me on mandy2235@gmail.com or
by letting myself or Pete Schofield know at either at the track on
Thursday.

Calling all vets. |
In Jan/Feb of each year the Yorkshire
vets cross country champs usually take
place. Despite only fielding a small
team at this year's event we managed
to come away with some medals and finish
a team. The event was fun, low key
and most importantly not full of scarily
fast young track runners doing
cross country as their endurance
training!
If you require any more information
please get in touch (details are on the
website).
For anyone wanting some great sessions
perfect for the cross country, get
yourself down to one or both of Pete
Schofield's speed sessions Tues/Thurs.
We have a good laugh and work hard, plus
speed work is a really time
efficient way of improving your running.
Many thanks
Mandy Clarke

WONDERED WHO IS KNAVESMIRE HARRIERS? |
|
Now you know! We've completed some analysis of our 200 members and
we can tell you that the average Harrier is:
- a 46 year old, Piscean man, living in Acomb, called Richard.
Say "hi" the next time you see him.

| "Just
30" (minutes) sports fair - FANS FLOCK TO THE HARRIERS! |
|
Thanks to Julie Rookes, Jayne Fligg, Louise McKenzie,
Sarah Douglas, Chris Roberts and Alistair McQueen for
representing YKH at York's "Just 30" (minutes) sports
fair in York on Saturday 15 September.
The team's sharp
sales techniques secured 5 new club members and raised
interest from many others. It normally takes a month to attrack 5 new members. Achieving the same number in 3
hours is a new PB!

Secretary at ykhnewmembers@yahoo.co.uk.
Pretend it's a trophy and it's guaranteed to impress your

KNAVESMIRE MEETS MO ! |
|
Harriers Sarah Douglas,
Alistair McQueen and Andy Martin joined 12,000 fans in
Birmingham on 26 August to cheer on their Olympic heroes at
the Athletics Grand Prix. Olympic medalists Greg Rutherford,
Robbie Grabarz, Aries Merritt and Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce
were amongst the competitors. But the highlight was getting
to meet Mo Farah and Christine Ohuruogu at the post race
hospitality.
Sarah encouraged Mo to
enter next year's Summer League, but sadly he declined.
"Even I'm not tough enough for Bishop Wilton", he conceded.

| New book: Olympic Sports in
York. |
 |
Yorkshire excelled at the London 2012 Olympics, but we've
been at it for a long time. A new book celebrating York's
historic sporting links with the Olympics has recently been
published. We've been advised it contains reference to York
Harriers and York Knavemire Harriers. York runners of old,
Willy Beavers and Harold Porter are included. It can be
purchased via the website below, and from the Barbican
bookshop, Waterstones, Jorvik, Visit York and York Central
Library, priced £9.99.

Thanks from Mike McGrath and Richard Gott to all
of you who helped at Bishop Wilton. It was a successful race
again thanks to all the hard work from volunteers both YKH
members and non members. |
York Knavesmire
Harriers training t-shirts. |
|
Hi everyone,
The moment that you’ve all been waiting for
has arrived-the York Knavesmire Harriers training t-shirts
are now ready for you to collect.
You can get yours from the Up&Running store on Fossgate.
The opening times are: Monday to Saturday 9.00am-5.30pm and
Sunday 10.00am-4.00pm.
They do have a list of names along with the size you ordered so
only if you’re on that list will you be able to get your
t-shirt. There’s still a few people who seem to have overlooked
their subs and I’ll be contacting you to let you know if you’re
one of them.
The t-shirts look great and I can’t wait to see us all in them.
Just to remind you that they’re for training and not for races
but feel free to wear them over your vests pre-race and do a bit
of club promotion.
I hope you all love them as much as I do.
Best wishes,
Sarah.

Vets 2010 Grand Prix series |
|
Team YKH has
been affiliated to the Yorkshire Veterans’ Athletic Association (yvaa)
for a number of years and we welcome any club member who would like to
run for their club and earn our team valuable points.
With several
different competitions during the year including cross country, a track
and field day, and Championship races there is something to suit all
disciplines.
The Grand
Prix race series offers approximately 10 events mostly off road and of
about 10k distance held throughout the year. With some challenging
terrain these races offer wonderful hill training for us Yorkies. The £3
race entry fee (paid on the day) includes an after race buffet and a
chance to get to socialise with team mates and the opposition. You can
register on line before running or you can register at the race. We also
meet to share lifts
Individual race and all vets competition details for 2012
will be displayed on the Knavesmire website or alternatively at
www.yvaa.org
Hope to see you soon but if you need any further details
you can contact

It has been a very difficult time planning the club runs due to
the fact that they have not been advertised on any of the
sites. We have been working on these runs since the end of last
year and can only publish what is available. It is simply not
just a case of picking a run we have had to take into account
the following;
What is advertised, distance in run, distance to travel, avoid
clashes with vets, summer league, black sheep, GNR, add new
races and keep favourites etc,
Apologies
but I, Maureen and Sarah are aware of the delay but it has been
due to the reasons I have explained and we too want to have the
races in our diary for planning. I monitor the races on a
daily/weekly basis and unfortunately I have found you cannot
rely on 2011 races as many of the organisers have their reasons
for not advertising or publishing a race for 2012. I trust
you now understand the reasons for the delay.
Regards Margaret, Maureen and Sarah |
