Cross Country Race Reports'09 |
West Yorkshire Cross Country League, Nunroyd Park , Leeds.(06.12.09)-Final
positions
Ian Bithell ploughed through the mud to finish 3rd in
the Vets 65-69 category. In the overall final league positions Ian was
tied on points with Malcolm
Coles for Cat' leader,
only being denied victory by a count back on times ( if I understand the
results correctly!).
Otherwise we had very little to shout about as a poor turnout of Knavesmire
runners (where were YOU) meant we didn't field a full team in
the Men's race, and as the Ladies had also failed to field a full team at
Leeds (Boddington Hall), neither team were entitled to overall league
positions.

West Yorkshire Cross Country League, Thornes Park,
Wakefield (21.11.09)
Lizzie Adams continued her recent strong form in winning
the third fixture of the West Yorkshire Cross Country League at Thornes
Park, Wakefield in the senior ladies race. In a stronger field than previous
fixtures, Lizzie and Rebecca Lambson of Skipton, who won the previous
fixture at Leeds Boddington Hall, set off together and swopped the lead on
the first and start of the second laps. As the second lap progressed,
Rebecca Lambson dropped back, only for Julie Briscoe of Wakefield then to
close in on Lizzie, before Lizzie again dropped her nearest competitor to
win this on this tough course by 11 seconds. The women’s team came 6th
overall, with team members Abey Lawrence, Amy Ross and Zoe Peak, as well as
Lizzie Adams.

Gateshead Cross Country Challenge, Gateshead Stadium
(14.11.09)
York Knavesmire Harriers had representation in this high
profile televised cross country fixture, which incorporated a home nations match
and runners from Spain, Portugal, Hungary and Estonia in the men’s race.
Lizzie Adams (Knavemire, running for her first claim club
Hallamshire Harriers), finished a creditable 19th in 30.25 on the 8km
course, beating former Great Britain steeplechase international Tina Brown. The
women’s race was won by a dominant Steph Twell, running for the first time in a
Scotland vest in 28.25.
In the men’s 9km race and in worsening weather and ground
conditions, Kim Critchley ran well to finish 20th in 29.55, and
Darren Hendley came in 57th in 36.04. Mike Skinner, running in an
England vest, won the £1100 first prize in 28.14, narrowly beating Scottish
based Eritean Tsegai Tewelde.

Lizzie Adams took victory in the Ladies race, with Helen Cross third.
Kim Critchley worked his way through the field to take second spot in the
Mens race.
It was good to see Nick Langan running well in the under 17 Boys race to finish
23rd.
The excellent efforts of all who turned out (5 ladies/16 men /1 junior/Pete &
Andy) helped the club to joint 2nd in the Ladies and 4th in the Men's team
competitions.

English National Cross Country
Championships
-Parliament Hill, London -21.02.09
A
number of Knavesmire runners made the long journey down to London for
the countries premier cross country race, hosted this year at the
classic venue of Parliament Hill on Hampstead Heath. London's skyline
offered a stunning backdrop to a challenging 12k course of tough hills,
fast descents, woodland trails and some muddy quagmires.
Knavesmire's sole female representative Caroline Warrington had perhaps
the best performance of our runners on the day, finishing in 123rd place
(546 finishers) with a time of 36:12s for the 8km Ladies race. |

The Men's start, nearly 1500 competitors charge uphill. |
In the Senior Mens race our first runner home was
Thomas Edwards, who had a stellar run coming 275th out of very
competitive field of nearly 1500 . He completed the two lap 12km
course in 46:38s.
Second home was Tom Watson, placing 322nd with a time of 47:19.
Next to finish was Darren Hendley - 488th/49:44s.
The last of the Harriers to finish was Giles Hawking - 588th/51:09s.
Barry Atkinson valiantly started the race whilst not being in the best
of health, but pulled out after the first lap.
The runners were supported by Andy Neale and Kim Critchley.
Everyone had a fabulous day, enjoying the spring like weather , stunning
vistas , quality racing and post run meal and beers in Chinatown. |
