English Champs at 3 Tops

English Championships – Guisborough 3 Tops – Sunday 6th September

The cream of English Fell Running descended on Guisborough for the last race in the English Fell Championships. Hoping to make use of their local knowledge, the usual Knavesmire crew were looking to go head to head with the big boys and finish in the top 50 to score some championship points.

Harry, as usual, stormed into the lead on the way to the first climb leaving everyone else trying to keep up. As we completed the first loop before setting off on the normal course there were some navigational errors by the front runners allowing us all to move up in the field. Harry started to move back down the field after his lightning start but managed to keep Chris at bay with them both managing to score points. A close battle ensued further down the field with Tom coming out on top ahead of Barry, Neil and Giles.

There were also good runs by Andy and Petra Gibbs and Janet Cordingley. Andy Smith had a baptism of fire in his first English Champs fell race with him finding the distance and amount of climbing hard going.
