Intro to Fell Running Big Success…

On Saturday 14th March the first Knavesmire “Intro to Fell Running” session was held with over 20 members heading out to Carlton Bank on the North Yorkshire Moors.

After a brief overview of fell running including race categories, required kit and footwear we set out towards Clay Bank.

We split into three ability groups covering between 4 to 8 miles and ranging from 1 to 5 climbs. There were regular stops after each climb for people to change up or down groups, which some committee members took full advantage of.

Once everyone was safely back at Carlton Bank we headed into the recently refurbished Lord Stones cafe for some hard earned sausage sandwiches and cake.

There are plans to hold another of these sessions in the summer so please keep an eye out on the website and in club emails if you are interested.

If you are interested in racing the next Esk Valley Winter Series race that I would recommend for a first race is the Broughton Woods Wobble on Sunday 12th April at 9:30am. A group of us will more than likely be heading up there so lifts can be arranged. More details can be found here. Fell running rules can be found here. The race is an AS category so full kit is not mandatory but I would recommend bringing as much of it as you have.
