"Home of the Brass Monkey"
Why run
with Knavesmire?
I suddenly found a group who enjoyed the things I did… the sort of people I
wanted to spend time with (Neil Holdsworth)

SUMMER LEAGUE'07-RACE REPORTS.
SELBY - 3rd July.
The Ladies team had their strongest result yet with
Kate Nelson storming to first place in 37.51, Caroline Warrington
3rd, Fiona Strange 5th and completing the team Andrea Lancaster in 6th, although
not officially announced the overall team position is looking unassailable. Our
Ladies dominance of the race was confirmed with Alayn Findlay and Janet
Cordingley also finishing in the top ten.
The Mens team have struggled this year but there have still been many notable
individual performances. This continued at Selby with Cameron Brooks winning
the mens race in only 32.03, followed in third by Richard Lowson.

EASINGWOLD 10K - 5th June.
LINK TO FULL RESULTS.
The Knavesmire Ladies teams had a good result at Easingwold,
with the 'A' team first and the 'B' team third. Individually Kate Nelson was the second lady home, Fiona Strange
5th,Andrea Lancaster 6th,Sarah Nettleton 7th, Janet Cordingley 8th and
Jane Shelmerdine 13th. |

In the men's race won by Andy Hilton of York Acorn, our first
finisher was Richard Lowson in 3rd followed rather distantly by Giles in
17th,John Oliver(20th), Mike McGrath(33rd),Martin Smith(50th) and Neil
Kingham in 61st.
Despite the best efforts of those who did choose to run we could
only muster the 5th team place, just ahead of York Acorn 'B'. |
More success was achieved within the Female individual age
categories.
Kate Nelson was 1st in the F35. Sarah Nettleton was 1st in the F45. Margaret Metcalf was 1st in the F55
Plus for those who had the energy to look, the view from the top of
Crayke hill was pretty spectacular and a hard won reward. |

TADCASTER 10K - 22 May.
Overall results at Tadcaster were not quite as impressive as
the flying start achieved at Pocklington a fortnight previously. Cameron
was absent (preparing for Blackpool Marathon) so Dave Eiser was left to
defend the club's honour at the head of the field, despite running in
the arduous Fairfield Fell Race in the Lake District on Saturday he
still managed a worthy 14th position.
Dave Prickett took a minute out of his time from Pock' to finish in 17th
and John Oliver improved his standing in the field by 7 positions over
the previous race to come 22nd.
I (Giles) had a race I would rather forget running the first two
k's in sub 3m20s each soon took it's toll and I spent the remainder of
the race being overtaken , eventually finishing 24th and not
happy! |

Caroline Warrington recently
accredited by UK Athletics as a first claim runner for the club finished
third in the Ladies category followed by Andrea Lancaster in
fourth, Janet Cordingley (7th) and Sarah Nettleton
(8th).Encouragingly they were the first Ladies team despite
a stronger showing from York Acorn.
Once again we fielded 63 club members, a pretty impressive turn out. |

POCKLINGTON 10K - 8th May.
2007's Summer League series got under way in fine style with
Cameron winning his fifth consecutive Pocklington race. Cameron finished in
33.31 , 27seconds ahead of his nearest challenger.
Despite Cameron's fine
efforts the much depleted Men's team could only manage 5th overall, which
is a far cry from past glories in the league. Hopefully a few of the absentees
will return for some of the remaining races.

The Ladies team were a great deal more successful ,who with well packed positions
of 3rd,6th,7th and 8th blitzed the opposition to claim first Ladies team.
Further success was achieved by Fiona and Janet who placed first in the
F35 and F45 categories respectively.
As always the town was besieged by Knavesmire runners, the field of 206 runners
comprised 63 of our members. |
