Darlington 10k - 12 August 2007
Great turn out on Sunday at this month's club run at the Darlington
town centre 10km with nearly 30 harriers turning out to run. Conditions were
ideal, not too hot and the rain didn't come along till after the race (and boy
did it rain).
Knavesmire had a great turn out with what must have been the most represented
club (definitely the most recognizable vest.)
Well done to all to turned out and especially the ladies who were second in team
category. This consisted of Kate Nelson , Andrea Lancaster and Sarah Nettleton.
They were sadly beaten to first team by Darlington harriers (boo hiss). Bill
Shively ran very well and beat York ac's Mike Raines despite Bill making a
navigational error at 9km and Andy Neale continued his successful return to
running as 12th harrier home.
Some of the KH results as follows:

Harrogate 10k - 30th July 2007
Good conditions saw 44 harriers toe the line in Harrogate. Cameron Brookes
continued his fine form to finish 4th overall in 32:50. Richard Lowson was 8th
overall in 34:16 and Dave Eiser was 20th in 36:27. Unfortunately Leeds' top
three men finished 3rd, 7th and 19th, and therefore we just missed out on the
team prize.
Knavesmire's women won the team prize easily, with Kate Nelson 3rd women home
in 38:18, Fiona Strange in 42:56 and Andrea Lancaster in 44:03.
Harold Dobson won the M70 category. Margaret Brown missed the start by over 5
minutes but still managed to catch and overtake 80 runners!
Afterwards most people went to Malcolm's for a lovely lunch and raffle.
Thanks to Malcolm and Barbara for their hospitality.
In the club championships, the competition is hotting up in a number of
categories. Combined results including Harrogate will be updated shortly on
this page.

Wheldrake 10k - 23rd June 2007
Jean Snelling's family made history in this race by including runners from three
generations- Jean, Jean's daughter Nicola Kingdom, and Nicola's son (Jean's
grandson) Louis Kingdom, running in his first race for Knavesmire at age 17.
Louis finished 14 minutes ahead of his mum and 15 ahead of his gran, and is
apparently looking forward to the next race.
As for the race, Cameron Brookes was first home for Knavesmire, running 32:44
(third overall), Darren Hendley was 9th overall in a PB 35:30, and Richard
Walker ran 41:28. Caroline Warrington was second lady overall in 40:21, followed
by Abey George-Plunkett who was third lady in 40:58, and Andrea Lancaster was
Knavesmire's third home. Winners in their age category included Harold Dobson,
Margeret Metcalfe, Sarah Nettleton and Jean Snelling. In total, 47 YNH's ran.
For many harriers it was just one race in a very busy weekend- many ran in the
Black Sheep race at Rainton the following day, while some foolhardy types ran in
the Jane Tomlinson 10k and Black Sheep race on the same day (Linda Schumacher
and Michelle Atkins).

ROTHWELL 10km - 29th April 2007.
Knavesmire's resident speed merchant Kim Critchley stormed to second
place at this popular and competitive race, taking just 30m:57s to cover the
distance. Please correct me if I'm wrong but that looks to be a new club
record for 10k, ousting George Debnam's long held record of 31m:05s.
Club members placing strongly in their age categories were Neil Strange(3rd),
Maureen Medlar(2nd), Margaret Metcalf(2nd), Jean Snelling(1st) and Harold Dobson
who was second in the over 70's with a time of 40:07.
New PB's were achieved by many runners, including Abey 39:05, Caroline 39:29 and
Andrea 41:48.
This was also our strongest participation in a club run so far this year with 51
members taking part.
There were far too many club members running to mention everyone, but if you got
a PB, have some photos, feel you deserve a mention or have spotted an error
please email me.

WILKINSON ACKWORTH HALF MARATHON - 25th March
2007.
Strong participation in the club runs continued with 35 members taking
part in the Ackworth 1/2,such was our strength of numbers that the organizers
wished to thank our club for it's support . Club members were not only rewarded
with a beautiful spring morning but also a good haul of prizes.
Cameron Brooks continued his run of good form with a splendid 4th place in the
Yorkshire 1/2 Marathon Championships, only being denied a bronze medal by GB
athlete Darren Bilton of Leeds City. In the overall race standings Cameron
finished 5th with a time of 70 minutes and 20 seconds.
Fiona Strange grabbed second place in the L40 category(144th 01:32:46), Margaret Metcalf
first L55,Jean Snelling was first L60, Malcolm Fawcett was second in the V65
category, Mike
McGrath was our second man home with a time of 01:29:10 in 94th, Martin Smith
came home in 01:35:15 and Janet Cordingley was sixth in her age group .
There were far too many club members running to mention everyone, but if you got
a PB, have some photos, feel you deserve a mention or have spotted an error
please email me.

her PB at the Dewsbury 10k, finishing in 1:05:36, which was particularly

1:15:59 and Joy Allen in 1:19:28, stepping up her preparation for London. ‘Mire

Respect goes to Pocklington Runners for putting on a quality well run race, with
plenty of support around the course, especially in Pocklington and Bishop
Wilton. Big respect also goes out to Kim Critchley, Nick Lovett and Andy Neale
for their constant support and water assistance out on the course, including on
two wheels!
