CROSS COUNTRY '07- Race
Report
|
Race 4 West Yorkshire League
Thornes Park - Wakefield.
02.12.07 |
The West Yorkshire
x-country league culminated on Sunday in a wet and windy Thornes
Park in Wakefield.
Kim Critchley won the men’s race, (for the
second time in the series), despite falling on one of the
treacherous descents. In so doing he helped cement the men’s team
bronze medal for the series, behind Bingley and Leeds. Cameron
Brookes finished 7th on the day, and won the M35 category
for the series. Other finishers for Knavesmire included Richard
Lowson with his best ever run in 9th, and Tom Watson in
26th. The team was completed with Dave Eiser and Neil
Strange. Other runners were Barry Atkinson, Kevin Langan, Darren
Hendley, John Oliver, Andy Neale, Alastair Mcleod, Ian Bithell.
The women’s team were also able
to retain comfortably the bronze medal they won last year,
with a final race turnout of Helen Wilcox (18th),
Caroline Warrington (20th), Andrea Lancaster, Zoe Peak,
Fiona Strange and Margaret Metcalfe.

Race
3 West Yorkshire League
YORK
17.11.07 |
|
The Club proudly hosted the 3rd race in
the series on the Knavesmire, thanks to excellent organisation and
course design by Richard Gott and others, the event was a great success.
Runners from all over Yorkshire, in age categories from Under 11 Girls
and Boys to Senior Men and Ladies (some over 70, naming no names)
enjoyed the opportunity to compete on our famous racecourse. In total 10
races were run on the day and 636 runners completed in the various
races.
The decision to make the race a club run swelled the number of Harriers
taking part in a cross country to 41, its hoped those who took the
chance to try something different enjoyed the experience.
Our ambition to retain our Bronze medals in both the Ladies and the
Men's came closer to fruition.
The Ladies were 2nd team overall on the day. Bolstered by the
addition of Kate Nelson (8th) and good performances by XC stalwarts
Helen (9th), Abbey (19th) and Caroline (20th).
The Men also ran well despite the absence of previous race winner Kim
Critchley, beating their rivals for the Bronze medal (Keighley & Craven
) into fifth place by just 5 points.
Cameron finished fifth, followed by Dave (41st), Neil (42nd),
Darren (44th), Barry(52nd) and Bill (53rd).With the influx of new cross
country runners we had A B C and D teams finish the race.
Thanks to Richard, the marshals and everyone who helped.
If anyone has any photos please email them in.

Race 2-West Yorkshire League
BRAMLEY PARK
27.10.
2007. |
 |
 |
York Local Sports Personality of the Year
nominee Kim Critchley, further
cemented his case for recognition with victory in the men's race
at Bramley. His pre-race prediction that he would "go out fast,
hang on and die" demonstrated a more aggressive attitude which in the
cut and thrust of cross country often gets better results.
A day of strong performances assisted the men's team to fourth
place overall.
Cameron ran well to finish 4th (and after two races leads in his age
category), Tom Watson surged forward on the last lap taking several
places to come 39th, ahead of Dave Eiser in 44th. Completing the six
counters for the 'A' team were Neil Strange 48th and Darren
Hendley 49th who finished neck and neck.
Knavesmire were well represented with a further 9 men taking part in the
race which is an excellent turnout .
|
Knavesmire's Ladies got back in the
running to retain their Bronze medals with Third place in the team
category.
Recent Amsterdam 1/2 marathoner Helen Wilcox finished strongly to lead
our ladies home, running 20:29, to finish 15th.
The 'A' team also comprised Caroline Warrington who was two
positions behind in 17th, Abey (20th )and Ashlyn (30th).
Also running were Alayne Finlay (44th), Fiona Strange (47th), Zoe Peak
(52nd) and Katie Godfrey (61st). |

Race 1-West Yorkshire League
NUNROYD
PARK
14.10. 2007. |
 |
 |
The 2007 West Yorkshire Cross Country League began at an
autumnal Nunroyd Park in Guiseley. With both our Ladies and Mens teams
defending their covetted Bronze medals from last season. The pressure was on to
get off to a good start.
Cool Kim started leisurely but soon made his way towards
the head of the field, eventually finishing an excellent fourth. Also in the top twenty were
Cameron Brooks (8th) and Richard Lowson (18th). The 'A' team was completed
by new club member Tom Watson (40th), Dave Eiser (52nd) and Darren Hendley (62nd) assisting the team to
third place. Game on. |
Also running were Bill Shiveley, Neil Strange, Dave Pricket, Kev Langan,
Jonathon Kendal, Ian Bithell, Alister Macleod, Richard Smith and a promising
youngster called Andy Neale. A sign of our strength in depth was that the 'B'
team finish just behind 12th placed Valley Striders.
For the Ladies a
well packed 'A' team consisting of Helen Wilcox (15th), Caroline Warrington
(20th), Abbey George-Plunkett (21st) and Fiona Strange (29th) finished fourth
overall.
Also running were Ashlyn Austin (31st), Alayne Finlay (54th) and Margaret
Metcalfe (83rd). |

CHAMPIONSHIPS-SUNDERLAND-10.03.07.

Despite a long and arduous cross country season,
Knavesmire's athletes managed one last big effort at the biggest race on
the domestic xc calendar, the Nationals held at a windswept but not very muddy
(hurrah) Herrington Park near Sunderland.
First to go
under starter's orders were the Ladies. Caroline Warrington was the first
"Knavesmire" lady to finish the 8km course in 36mins dead, but unfortunately on
this occasion was running for her first choice club Herne Hill Harriers.
Abey George-Plunkett led the official Knavesmire contingent home with a strong
run securing 113th position only 2 seconds behind Caroline. The inseparable trio
who ran the race in line was completed by Aislyn Austen who
finished very shortly afterwards in 117th(36:10).
Helping the squad to an overall position of 15th out of field of 28 highly
competitive teams was Zoe Davis (150th) and Andrea Lancaster(168th).
In the Men's
race Knavesmire's star runner Kim Critchley shone very brightly, he led
the 12km race during some of it's early stages but slipped back to still
finish amongst some very distinguished competitors in 16th position (out of 916)
. The 'training sessions' down his allotment seem to be having the desired
affect.
Kim was somewhat distantly followed home by Giles Hawking who made the most of a
swift start to come home in 317th and Neil Strange who despite missing the start
(schoolboy error!) and losing a shoe managed 336th.
Completing the team which finished 28th out of 72 teams were, in 350th
Darren Hendley who out sprinted Barry Atkinson(355th)in the home straight
and young prospect for the future Bill Shiveley (489th).
Thanks to Pete Schofield, Andy Neale and Nick Lovett for their support on
the day.

INTER-COUNTIES CROSS COUNTRY
CHAMPIONSHIPS-NOTTINGHAM - 24.02.07.
Knavesmire's Kim Critchley competed in the Sky Sports televised Inter-County
Cross Country Championships at a muddy Wollaton Park Nottingham.
Kim was given the honour of a place in the Yorkshire team following his
sixth place at the Yorkshire Championships in January.
On the day Kim ran well to finish 55th out of the 282 selected contestants,
helping Yorkshire claim the Bronze team prize ahead of 32 other teams.
NORTHERN
CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS - MANCHESTER-27.01.07.
Knavesmire’s runners had a number of strong performances at Heaton Park,
topped by Kim Critchley’s excellent fifth in the Senior Men and Helen
Wilcox’s eighteenth in the Senior Ladies.
The Men’s team came a creditable 12th in a field of 53, to claim
the honours of best North Yorkshire team ahead of York Acorn, who weren’t too
far behind in 13th.
Knavesmire’s Ladies' finished 18th out of 34 complete teams, and
can lay claim to being the only North Yorkshire club represented in the final
standings. If Helen had been eligible for one of the four counting places the
team would have advanced to a position bordering on the top ten.
Celebrations were cut a little short when the coach broke down before it had
even left the car park for the return journey, however a nearby pub and a fifty
pound drinks kitty courtesy of the coach operator helped alleviate the wait for
a replacement.
