We had our best showing for many years at the
Nationals, the Men's team were 30th overall (out of 107 complete teams)
and the Ladies were 32nd (of 61), teams were the first six for the Men
and four for the Women.
In the 9 to count team competition the Men were even more highly placed
at 20th.
The Roundhay course (12km for men, 8km for women) was a tough
challenge for most competitors, featuring the infamous 'Hill 60' ,
negotiated 3 times by the men and twice for the women, as well as some
large stretches of ankle deep mud and treacherously slippery descents
(for me at least).
The Harriers were also ably represented in the Under17 mens race, with
Nick Langhan finishing a very respectable 179th.
The senior Mens race was won by Andy Vernon of Aldershot Farnham and
District AC in 38:01 and the Ladies by Stephanie Twell also of Aldershot
Farnham & District AC in 27:52.
Aldershot won the Mens team prize and the Ladies was taken by Charnwood
AC. Leeds City AC took second Mens team prize , with local runner Darren
Bilton their fourth counter.
Thanks also to the vocal Knavesmire Harrier marshals who had a long day
stood in the cold filling in rabbit holes.

Northern Cross Country Championship's - Blackburn
(23.01.10)
York Knavesmire Harriers put on a fine display at the Northern Cross country
Championship's in Blackburn . The course which was undulating and muddy in parts
proved testing for all runners.
The outstanding performance came from triathlete Abey Lawrence who came home in
her best race to date in 48th place, Caroline Warrington 112th, Andrea Lancaster
returning from injury 126th & new team member Alison Hartley 184th. The ladies
team finished 14th overall. In the race which was won by Hallamshire A.C and
Hatti Dean.
In the mens race which was won by Leeds City A.C Knavesmire took a creditable
25th place.
Tom Edwards was first home in 103rd, Darren Hendley 186th, Kevin Langhan 248th,
Barry Atkinson 281th, Russell Parkinson 340th & Luke Westwood 403rd. Other Mire
Finishers: Patrick Langhan 439th & Duncan Chambers 488th.
In the under 17 race Nick Langhan kept his improving form to finish 75th.
