| English National Cross Country Championships
, Parliament Hill, Hampstead Heath, London -25.02.2012. |
We had an excellent day at the country's premier
cross country event, aided by gloriously warm sunny weather with almost
cloudless skies, giving an unbelievably great view of the London
skyline resplendent in the distance.
Considering the distance from home our turnout of 8 Senior Men , 1
Senior Woman and 1 Junior Man was pretty good.
This was the 125th running of the Senior Men's Race and the field
of competitors was one of the biggest assembled in recent years (1689
finished). To be a part of the stampeding hoard of runners thundering
up Parliament Hill at the start truly is an experience to be remembered.
The race was won by Keith Gerrard of Newham & Essex Beagles (a surprise
result) and the team prize was taken home by Leeds City AC.
Our team had good strength in depth and the first six to count did
exceptionally well to place 53rd of 125 complete teams of six to
complete tough 12km course. This comprised of two 6km laps which
meandered through parkland, woods, up and down numerous hills and
although mostly dry under foot there was the occasional bog or muddy
stretch to suck the strength from weary legs. |

The YKH men finished as follows;
192nd Richard Lowson
493rd Bhim Subba
622nd Giles Hawking
678th Barry Atkinson
699th Darren Hendley
897th Rory Henderson
976th Kevin Langan
1466th Andy Neale.
(of 1689 finishers, plenty did not!)
In the Junior Men's race Nick Langan was 158th.
For the Ladies our only entrant this year was
Caroline Warrington who finished 259th of 650 finishers. The
Ladies race was won by Gemma Steel of Charnwood AC, with the team
event going to Hallamshire Harriers, their Northern Cross Country
Champion and one time YKH second claim runner Lizzie Adams was 6th. |

Those of us who turned out for the club had a great day at the
'races'.
The going was good to firm, the weather was as good as you could hope
for at this time of year and the largely flat course was one to suit the
York runner.
In the Junior Men's race we were represented by Nick Langan who finished
in 71st place,
