Calderdale Way Relay – 11th May

York Knavesmire Harriers are thinking of entering a team in the Calderdale Way Relay on 11th May. Initially I just want to see how much interest there is in taking part in this event and if there is enough I will contact those who expressed interest.

The race is around the circular Calderdale Way in West Yorkshire. It is a 12 person relay run in pairs over 6 legs and you must run together. The legs vary in distance from 5 to 11 miles. Teams can consist of men and women.

All runners will need to recce the course before the day as it is not marked and each pair is expected to know the way. We would organise a weekend or two for groups of runners to go there and recce a couple of legs.

This is a fell race run under FRA rules so you need trail/fell shoes and will need to carry kit. The exact kit required is received on entry of the team but it is likely that you will be required to carry the following which may be relaxed for the shorter legs.

• Waterproof whole body cover including hood
• Hat and Gloves
• Map, preferably waterproof, of the race route and surrounding area
• Compass suitable for navigating the course
• Whistle
• Emergency food (long races).
