—Run the Lights 10k.
Report by Liz Piper

Saturday night.  What to do the day before Escrick?

The answer seemed obvious to us.  Why not enter Fylde Coast Runners ‘Run the Lights ‘ 10k race in Blackpool?
We’d always wanted to – so we did.  Arriving on Blackpool prom at 8pm, we collected our numbers and shivered in the wind waiting for 9pm and the start.
Thousands gathered,  most in fancy dress.
The run itself was amazing.  An out and back.  The main road was closed to traffic, race marshalls had the power to stop all trams.  As we set off with an amazing sunset over the Irish Sea, the illuminations went on (for one night only!) and we found ourselves running along the main road surrounded by lights and The Tower ahead.
If you haven’t already tried it,  I would recommend this race to you.  It’s well organised,  crowds cheering the whole way and a magical experience.   Plus the medals glow in the dark!

10 out of 10 if we were scoring.
