GoodGym – Calling All Volunteers

GoodGym is a new not-for-profit organisation that has been set-up to mix exercise with doing good works in the local community. A number of Harriers are already taking part, including well-known member Nick Griffin.Nick has suggested three upcoming GoodGym events that could be of interest to many of our members. There is no charge for going along, so why not give it a try? All abilities are welcome. (Thanks Nick!)

1. Monday 11 September, 6pm: The “Massive leaflet drop” will see us meet at the Premier Inn Hotel on Blossom Street at 6pm (That’s the Premier Inn nearest Micklegate Bar). We’ll then run to Tang Hall before splitting into groups and attempting to deliver 2,000 (!) leaflets promoting OCAY – a local charity that supports York’s older residents. There will be a quick bit of core fitness on our way back to the town centre for 7:45pm. Afterwards, all are then welcome to come along to the Brigantes pub on Micklegate for a well-earned drink and a chat, if you fancy it.  (Please note, YKH’s regular Monday run will take place as usual on this Monday)

More details here.

2. Sunday 17 September, 12 noon: The “Great South Bank Recycle” will see local South Bank residents leave items for recycling in their front gardens. GoodGym will be on call to run and collect items – especially from older residents – and deliver them where they are needed. (Don’t worry, we will not be carrying fridges to London!). In between, all will be invited to hand-press apples to provide refreshing juice for the thirsty volunteers. All will be finished by 3pm. Feel free to drop by any time between 12 and 3pm.

More details here.

3. Sunday 8 October: On the day of the Yorkshire Marathon and 10 mile, GoodGym will be manning the final water station. Join the team to help cheer the thousands of runners (including many from YKH) towards the finish line.

It’s all a great way for runners to give back to York.

If you are interested in any or all of the above, please drop a note to club member Nick Griffin at nickg@goodgym.org.

See you there!
