Honley Vets Race report

Report by Pete Downes

Congratulations to the 5 Knavesmire Harriers who took on the challenge of the tough Honley vets race.
After a nice flat start with 2 laps of a playing field we entered a wooded section and climbed and climbed again, there was a short level section before we climbed again, eventually we did get to the downhill section, but not before going over ploughed fields and numerous stone walls and stiles. The downhill section was very steep and at the bottom we had to take care not to over shoot the turn (anchor would have been handy at that point), eventually we had a final section round the sports field and the finish line.

In the ladies section we had just 1 runner (other members had work comitments) Jane-marie Kelly , Jane was running her 1st vets race for ykh and she had a great run coming home 27th, well done Jane, in the mens section we had 4 runners, Bill Shively was 1st back for ykh in 18th place followed by Pete Downes 22nd, then Peter Welsh 45th and Ian Bithell 72nd, great running guys. the tea and cakes certainly went down well afterwards, hope to see a few more down at next vets race .
