Last Call for Calderdale…

Last Call for Calderdale….

2015 sees the 31st running of the Calderdale Way Relay on Sunday 17th May. This is Britain’s biggest club-run off-road event with around 90 teams and over 1,000 runners taking part in the 2014 edition. We’re looking for runners to join the Knavesmire teams hoping to take part in this year’s event. 20 runners have signed up already, so we need 4 more runners (plus a few reserves) to give us enough for a second team.

The Calderdale Way route follows a 50-mile loop starting in West Vale, West Yorkshire and taking in the moorland and countryside around Halifax, Hebden Bridge and Todmorden. For the relay event, this is split into 6 legs with lengths varying from 5 to 11 miles, with each leg run as a pair. We’ll pair up runners of (roughly) equal speed and put them on appropriate legs, so that everyone can have an enjoyable run on the day. It’s a great day out with the club, generally followed by food/drink in York in the evening and a chance to catch up with the events of the day.

For those that have already signed up, we’ll be arranging days to go out and recce various legs during March and April, now the weather is improving! I’ll also be sending out an email with proposed pairings and legs over the next few weeks.

So, if you want to be part of one of the Knavesmire teams, find out more about the event or just join us on the recces, email me on ykh_calderdale@yahoo.co.uk.

Alternatively, if you have any questions about the event, then have a chat to myself (Neil Stabbs), men’s captain Chris Roberts or ladies’ captain Nik Vogan at the Tuesday or Thursday sessions at the university.
