Racing Round Up – w.e 18th Feb’ – Snake Lane, Blood Axe, Eskdale Eureka & Seville Marathon.

—Snake Lane.

69 Harriers took to the lanes around Pocklington for another fabulous edition of the Snake Lane 10 miler on Sunday. Tom Pavis was first home for the club in 11th position, with David Morrison close behind in 13th. Helen Cross won the F40 category by a margin of over a minute and was the 6th female finisher, while Hazel Hall also put in a fantastic run to win the F50 category. Along with Francesca Sawer, these performances won our club the female team prize!

Despite a few mighty puddles, conditions were more or less ideal and there were a large number of PBs, ranging from 2 seconds for Gareth to over 12 minutes for Matt. Congratulations to everyone and thanks to Pocklington Runners for a great race!

—Bloodaxe Challenge.

The second club championship race of the year was the Bloodaxe Challenge hosted by See York Run York.

28 Harriers attempted to run as many laps of the cycle circuit at York Sports Village in Heslington as they could in the two hours available. Caitlin, Ellie, Ste and Steve (dubbing themselves ‘the idiots’) took on this challenge having completed Snake Lane the same morning.

Our club featured heavily at the top of the results, with Emma Brookshaw completing 26 laps to take the win and Rob Woodward managing 27 for second place.
Harriers accounted for half of the top 10 overall and only a few runners reported dizziness after running anticlockwise for two hours!

Well done on the great performances and thanks to See York Run York for another fantastic event!

Seville Marathon.

Richard Walker reports:

Perfect conditions, sunny but not hot (13 degrees) with a gentle breeze, for a field of 12,000 runners and a packed elite field.
I finished in 2:59:51  (22nd in MV55 and 1702 overall), accompanied for a fair bit of the way by Matthew Kiddle from York Acorn – before he sped away at the end. A really well organised marathon with a nice finish through the historic centre of the city. Definitely worth training through the winter and one to do if you fancy an early year marathon.
