- Ian Fairlamb – Mow Cop Killer Mile
I grew up close to Mow Cop and used to race this as a teenager. It is a one mile, uphill race, taking in gradients of 25%, over about 170 metres (550 ft) of ascent, and is quite frankly relentless.
The race has been around since the 1970s.
Photo is of me and a few other runners at the top of the famous Cheshire view (no Knavesmire vest, in the wash from the YDRRL race in Tadcaster…). If you look around you can see the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank, and even Liverpool Cathedral on a clear day.
It is always a popular and enjoyable race. I finished 28th from a field of 107 runners (1st in the V45 age category) with a time of 9 mins 40 seconds.
Results here. The winning time for 2022 was 7 minutes 37 seconds.
