—Melbourne(AUS) Marathon.
Report by Lucy Buykx.

I booked to run Melbourne marathon in 2020 but covid, so this year was time to deal with unfinished business. The weather had been shocking all week with gales and heavy showers, jet lag has been awful, and it was a 07:00 start, so I was starting to wonder if I had made the right decision 😀

The course ran from just outside the CBD, around the wide lake of Albert Park (scene of the previous day’s obligatory tourism parkrun) and then down to the bay for a long run along the beach before we turned back up towards the city’s and finished at the MCG (some of your readers may be familiar with this place!) It was absolutely amazing to run into the arena and hear the sound of so many cheering supporters, even better when I saw the clock and realised I could go under 5 hours!

I’d started with the 5-hour pacers but wasn’t confident at the start that I would keep up (garmin predicted about 5:07 and garmin is god right?!?) but those pacers were absolutely wonderful and in the last few km I felt happy to push on and I finished with an amazing PB of 4:55:48. That’s about 50mins faster than earlier this year and 3:30 faster than my previous PB set in 2019. Very very happy.

And well done to all harriers who did the York marathon and 10miles – a few weeks rest and recovery for all of us 😀

—Lakeland Trails – Ullswater Glenridding.
Report by Ste.

Bryan Drew, Ruth Robson and Ste Robson ( & the Sewells) headed to Ullswater for the 10:30am Lakeland Trails Ullswater 14km. The race is unusual in that you meet in Glenridding, but are then boarded onto the Ullswater Steamer and sailed to Howtown where the race begins. You then follow the trails all the way back to Glenridding.

Conditions were excellent, really an ideal picturesque autumnal morning. We set off a few minutes after the boat deposited us, and were quickly climbing up into the hills. Underfoot it was a mixture of grassy paths, rocks and tree roots, so definitely one for trail shoes, but not hideously technical. The climbs were rewarded with views that wouldn’t look out of place on a postcard, truly stunning!
At the finish we collected our t-shirts and treated ourselves to a wood fired pizza from the van that had arrived. What a day, I can highly recommend it!

– Trail Challenge 14k Results:

Bryan Drew – 1:22:04 – 8th place, and first M50!
Ste Robson – 1:49:37 – 80th place, walked the whole thing due to injury, much to the annoyance of the people I overtook 😎

Ruth Robson – 2:30:19 – 184th place, and is loving trail running.
