YKH parkrun Showdown – 9am Sat 27th Sept

What?
We’re holding a club contest at our lovely local parkrun. parkrun is a free weekly timed 5km event, and gives all registered runners age graded scores for each run. This score is the percentage of the world record for your age and gender, so that an 80 year old man’s performance can be compared on equal footing to a 20 year old lady’s. We’ll use this event and the automatic age grading as a sort of club contest – does the old guard still have what it takes or are the new breed of whippets as fast as they think they are? No entry fees, no prizes, just good fun and banter.

When?
All English parkruns start at 9am prompt on Saturday mornings. York Knavesmire Harriers are going to try to show up in force for the York parkrun at 9am on Saturday 27th September 2014.

Where?
The run is on the service track inside York Racecourse (where the Summer League race is held). Specifically, the start is near the Cherry Lane entrance (pretty much the same as the start of the Summer League race), and the finish is in front of the Grandstand.

How?
You need to be registered with parkrun – this is free and can be done here

Make sure you select your club as York Knavesmire Harriers – just scroll to the bottom of the list to find us and please wear your club vests if you’ve got one. You are then sent an email with a link to your own personal barcode – print out and bring one of these barcodes to any parkrun event and get it scanned at the end. As if by magic you will usually have your results within a few hours, including the all important age grading.

Anything Else?
York parkrun is used by hundreds of people every week as a nice bit of weekend fun. Please respect all other users of the Racecourse and don’t spoil their fun by being mean and scary. No elbow barging, death glares, tying together shoelaces, etc… The average finishing time at York is around about 26 minutes. To avoid congestion if you’re faster than that then start in the front half, if not then please try to start in the back half.
