—Ian Hodgson Mountain Relay.

Knavesmire fielded a crack squad of 8 Fell Runners for  this challenging race held in Patterdale , the Lake District. The race is the Country’s longest- running Mountain Relay Race and consists of four legs run in pairs, normally up one side of Patterdale valley , Leg 1 Patterdale to Hartsop, Leg 2 Hartsop to it’s head at the summit of Kirkstone Pass before legs 3 and 4 return via  the valley’s opposite side.

The weather was of a type beloved of fans of the Lake District. Predicted treacherous conditions on the high fells led to route alterations

Due to bad weather this year the race was amended to avoid the high fells of legs three and four , leg three now being leg 2 in the opposite direction and leg 4 reversing leg 1.
Knavesmire finished 35th of 69 teams

Sam and Scout heading for the finish.

Leg 1 Simon Collins and Barry Atkinson   46:33    30th Place after Leg 1
Leg 2 Neil Stabbs and Tim Harvey              57:12     31st Place after Leg 2      (36th fastest on leg 2)
Leg 3 Chris Roberts and Tom Ratcliffe 01:01:26    38th Place after Leg 3     (50th fastest on leg 3)
Leg 4 Sam Allin and Scout Adkin                48:15     35th Place after Leg 4    (34th fastest on leg 4)

Thankfully Simon did not realise he had done this to himself until he had completed his leg . The injury the result of slipping on the almost frictionless wet grass whilst speeding downhill. A detour to Penrith Hospital for some stitches was required on the way home.
