—Carlisle Half Marathon.

Alan reports “Ellie Page and I raced the Carlisle half marathon on Sunday 15 March. The race went through the lovely city centre and a couple of surrounding villages and the course was mostly flat and on road. Conditions were gusty but otherwise favourable. Ellie was 26th lady (193 overall) in 1:49:31 and I was 63rd with a PB time of 94:32.”

—Billsdale Fell Race.

The Knavesmire fell running contingent had a hopefully temporary final racing  fling up on the moors.

This very tough 15 mile  , category AL ( i.e lots of ascent and long ) race  began at Chop Gate, with an initial climb to the North Yorkshire  Moor’s highest point at Round Hill, then along the Cleveland Way to Clay Bank , Wainstones , the viewpoint at Stone Seat and Carlton Bank with various diversions to checkpoints down below the bank which resulted in a lot of  up’n’down exertion.

At Carlton Bank we were still not done yet , much to the disappointment of Richard Purser who had climbed most of the way up it to realise he had missed out the checkpoint at the bottom . There was then a trek across Billsdale Moor and another couple of tricky to find checkpoints before the glorious long descent from Cock Howe to the finish at Chop Gate.

Ursula Moore was 3rd Lady, Glynn was a happily broken man in 9th, Hem powered up the field in the second half as did Oli and Nick.

Emily Harper made her fell running debut, a case of truly throwing yourself in at the deep end, she did tremendously well to finish this very gruelling event which reduced some of our more experienced fell runners to exhausted shambling shadows of their former selves.
