—Balcon des Fiz – France Report by Clare Rowntree

This was my first attempt at alpine running. I knew from looking at the elevation gain (750m) in advance that this would be tough, but I wasn’t prepared for how tough it was going to be. Running up ski slopes and drag lift routes saw to it that my calves were in agony early on. This was combined by a volume of rain that would have even been regarded as significant in the Lake District (two stages of the Tour de France held nearby had been shortened due to the weather). In the end I was very pleased to finish 18th lady out of a field of just over 200.
