Ed of YKH team Yellow reminiscing about leg 1:

An Ode to Baz! And Something About Leg 1 on the Yorkshire Three Peaks!

Baz is a cool dude. I’m pretty sure the bloke is half whippet, half mountain goat, and a quarter spirit of the hills. Don’t ask me about the maths on that one!
We start in a big field with about 1,000 people, all racing against Olympian Alistair Brownlee. The buzz and support through Horton were amazing!
We begin climbing immediately, and to tell you the truth, it doesn’t stop until you reach the top of Pen-y-ghent.
Not a lot of talking from me—concentrating on running for a change. Baz is in mountain goat mode, chatting his way up.
We see the race leaders flying down the path—serious legs on those blokes.
We “dib in” at the top. Baz performs his party trick by tripping over the tiniest rock. The spirit of the hills allows him to style it out with a barrel roll. Tom Cruise, eat your heart out.
The descent is a weird one: technical in places, but most of it is loose gravel and very runnable.
I’m moving, but not for long. I hit the wall at mile 8 or 9, my legs are dead. Walking any hills or mild inclines now.
Baz looked very nippy—bouncy, whippet-like. Oh, how I wished I had done many things differently in that run.
Some road action, then a grassy section with the mildest incline… I’m sure I was going backwards at that point. Baz is calling me to get moving!
Dib in for the final time. I’m ruined—physically and emotionally.
Some proper tough running done, can’t wait for next year!
Thanks to all the gang.

James’ of YKH team Black on the 2nd leg:

Ursula and I waited at the checkpoint overlooking the Ribblehead viaduct looking up to Whernside and our coming climb. Pen-y-ghent was lost in the distance behind.
The first runners came by as we watched on the horizon for two black and yellow vests. Rose and Claire came into view in fantastic time and we were off before we had time to start our watches.
With fresh legs we started strongly overtaking others already deep into their runs. The climb up Whernside was slow and got increasingly steep. We reached the top (me on my hands and knees, Ursula casually gossiping with a former Knavesmire Harrier).
The descent was fast and technical, but with only a short leg we could really put the power down with only a few slips and trips. Onto the flat again, it was just a matter of hanging on to hand over to Tom and Rob to finish the job.
Bryan of YKH team Yellow musings on leg 3:
Leg 3 – Up Ingleborough
Robyn Hawskby and Bryan Drew took up the baton from Hill Inn for the final leg over Inglebrough. On fresh legs they were soon passing tired runners and reached the summit checkpoint prior to the long fast descent back into Horton. They loved every minute and brought the team home in a time!
